David Butler brings more than 20 years of experience as an executive for nonprofit and for-profit institutions to his role at Consumer Reports. He heads the Washington, D.C. office and oversees CR’s work with consumers, policymakers and businesses to help build a marketplace that is safe, sustainable, and fair for all of us.
With our trusted research and policy expertise, CR advocates for pro-consumer laws and corporate practices at the state and federal level. Our nonprofit, nonpartisan organization has a long history of educating and organizing people across the U.S. in support of consumer rights, and we engage directly with companies and governments to find solutions.
David leads the core teams at CR that help carry out this mission, and he works with people across the organization to help raise the bar for better products. Previously, he served as deputy director of CR’s Washington office and senior director of strategic communications.
Prior to his current role at CR, David was senior director of corporate communications for SiriusXM. He worked in Congress as the press secretary for U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer from Alabama, and he was the news director for public radio station WJAB at Alabama A&M University. He earned his B.A. in communications at Pepperdine University.
