Having a baby is not easy on the wallet, so finding ways to save on all the things you’ll need is helpful. But whether you’re a new parent or a seasoned pro, having a little one often leaves you with little time to comparison shop, let alone find a good deal.

As Consumer Reports’ Deals expert, I’ve done some legwork to get you started. I’ve combed through all the different products for children that we’ve tested, including strollers, car seats (including free ratings available to everyone for this category), baby monitors, and safety gates, to pinpoint the ones that scored well in CR’s labs and at-home tests and offer some serious savings.

    Baby Bottle Sterilizers

The Baby Brezza One Step sterilizer performs impressively in terms of temperature and drying. Its auto mode runs a sanitizing and drying cycle, and it has a digital timer that shows how much time remains in the cycle. It has selectable drying times, too, so you can make sure that everything gets as dry as possible, though it doesn’t have a HEPA filter. This bottle sterilizer doesn’t have any extra trays; rather, there are very long prongs that keep the bottles firmly in place, shorter prongs for bottle nipples, and a small circular rack of prongs that hangs above the bottles for other items. It can hold up to six tall baby bottles, but it can feel crowded, so shorter baby bottles may work best.

    Bassinets

This Delta Children bassinet has an old-school look, with a fabric overskirt. Its base has retractable wheels, so you can opt for rocking, though we found the motion so slight that it’s barely noticeable. It has a music and night-light unit, and offers vibration to help soothe baby. The Delta bassinet includes a storage basket for essentials. It’s also worth noting that our testers found it a bit tricky to put together.

The Ronbei Bedside Bassinet can be used freestanding or as a bedside sleeper, with the fabric unzipped for easier access to your baby. In bedside sleeper mode, the unit must be secured to the side of the parents’ bed with the included straps for safety, and the height is adjustable to fit most bed frames. We liked the overall design, including the fact that this bassinet is height-adjustable.

    Baby Carrier

    BabyBjörn Harmony

     BabyBjörn Harmony

The BabyBjörn Harmony carrier allows you to carry your baby in three different ways: in front while facing in, in front while facing out, and on your back. Because it goes over the head, this carrier doesn’t have a back buckle (it has a strap that gets adjusted), which may be a plus for users who have a hard time reaching behind their backs or don’t have anyone to assist them. Although all of our carriers were closely ranked, the BabyBjörn Harmony received the highest marks in our evaluation.

    Car Seats

The Shyft DualRide is at a decent price right now. It was recently closer to $400 at Amazon, so it’s not the best price, but you’re still saving a decent amount. And CR members can save even more with an exclusive offer—see below for details. It conveniently combines a car seat and stroller, but comes at a steep price. With strong scores for maneuverability, safety, and ease of use, it’s a solid performer as a stroller, and it also scored well in our car seat tests. The drawbacks are that it lacks one-touch brakes and the ability to fold with one hand, and it doesn’t stand when folded. But it’s also suitable for infants and up until the child outgrows the car seat, and it meets Disney parks’ stroller-size requirements. When combined with the stroller, the Shyft is on the heavier side for an infant car seat.

CR’s digital and All-Access members can save more when shopping at Evenflo. Using the code CR15, they’ll save 15 percent sitewide, bringing the price of this car seat down to $467.49 (not shown above).

    Strollers

The Baby Jogger City Sights is now at the best price we’ve ever seen. It stood out in our testing with its easy, one-handed fold and one-touch brakes. The seat is reversible, which gives your little one the option of facing out to watch the world roll by, or keeping their eyes on you. The stroller navigated smoother surfaces best—it didn’t maneuver as well on rougher terrain. One heads up: You will need to purchase additional adapters to pop in a car seat.

It’s back down to its lowest price at Amazon, a rare discount that doesn’t typically last long.

This Chicco stroller isn’t the lightest of umbrella strollers, but it’s compact and easy to fold, and it stood out in our tests for its top-notch safety. It’s light on storage but easy to use and maneuver, and while the seat doesn’t recline all the way (meaning it’s not suitable for infants under 6 months old), it does recline a little for older kiddos capable of sitting upright.

The total discount will only apply once you check out.

The Baby Trend Snap-N-Go Double is a stroller frame that can accommodate two car seats. It performed excellently in our safety tests, and it’s as easy to use as the single Snap-N-Go. But it’s a bit harder to maneuver, as double strollers tend to be. It’s easy to fold and unfold, though carrying it folded can be a little awkward. It’s compatible with a number of car-seat brands, and it meets Disney parks’ stroller size requirements.

    Breast Pumps

    Willow Go Wearable Breast Pump

    Willow Go Wearable Breast Pump

The Willow Go wearable breast pump did well in CR’s evaluations. It has two modes (stimulation and expression) and nine suction levels, and it comes with 21- and 24-millimeter flanges. The pump also connects to a mobile app that can be used to control the pump and ask for expert advice.

    Baby Bottles

    Lansinoh Baby Bottle

    Lansinoh Baby Bottle

The Lansinoh baby bottle performed well in CR’s evaluations. Parents who tried this baby bottle liked the simplicity and minimal parts, and the wide mouth made it easy to clean. Plus, many parents said that the side and shape were great for their babies (6 months and up) to hold the bottle themselves, though this is the one category where the bottle didn’t get a perfect score, coming in just below a 5/5.

    Bottle Warmers

    Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow MilkSpa

    Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow MilkSpa

With the coupon, this is the best price we’ve seen in months for this bottle warmer. Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow Milk Spa uses a warm water bath to warm bottles, but setup is a bit more involved than with other models we tested. Once that’s done, it warms bottles with no sign of overheating long after the warming program has ended. The controls on this model allow users to select the type of bottle and starting temperature of the milk or formula (frozen, refrigerated, or room temperature) and to adjust the time of the program. Even though the display is a bit crowded, according to our usability expert, it was relatively easy to use and understand. If you like to reuse settings, this model remembers any adjustments to time that are made for your next bottle warming.

    Baby Monitors

The midpriced Vava baby monitor comes with its own display and handles the video feed locally, so it doesn’t have the privacy and security issues of internet-connected models. The display unit has a large, bright, high-resolution screen. This model does, however, lack some less important features, like a night light and the ability to play music. And the volume is controlled via a menu rather than physical buttons, which can be more convenient.

The Babysense monitor, at its best price, comes with its own display and handles the video feed locally, so it doesn’t have the privacy and security issues of internet-connected models. It has a 5-inch 720p display that falls a bit short of the best models we tested, but it should still work fine for most users.

This HelloBaby model is one of the lower-priced video monitors to earn CR’s recommendation. The device has its own display and handles the video feed locally, so it doesn’t have the privacy and security issues of internet-connected models. It lacks a night light, but that’s hardly a deal-breaker.

It was $10 less for the holidays, but this is the usual sale price and is still a decent discount.

The Nanit Pro lacks its own display. Instead, it transmits video and audio through the company’s servers to an app on your smartphone. It’s the only one of the models with this configuration to earn a CR recommendation. But it still falls short of the best wireless security cameras in privacy and security.

    Nanny Cams

A nanny cam can be a good alternative to a baby monitor, especially if you want to keep an eye on things throughout your home, and many folks are turning to wireless security cameras to get the job done. CR combed through the rankings of cameras we’ve tested to highlight the best nanny cam options based on features like privacy, pan-and-tilt controls, and intelligent alerts for loud sounds such as crying.

    Humidifiers

A humidifier usually isn’t necessary for your baby’s health. But you may still want one for comfort—for instance, to make your baby’s room feel less dry, especially if you’re getting ready to turn on the AC for the warmer months.

On just about every measure, including moisture output and noise, this owl soars. It’s convenient to use, though not being able to get a hand into the tank for cleaning is a drawback. The 250-square-foot claimed coverage area is on the high end for a small-room model. Other animal figures in this Crane series include Wyatt the Fox, Puffington the Penguin, Misty the Unicorn, Sidney the Sheep, The Crane Train, Hello Kitty, Freddy the Frog, Mya the Monkey, Violet the Hippo, and Elliot the Elephant. They all perform similarly but different versions go on sale at different times. These rarely sell for more than $50, but these models are at better prices than the rest.

With the coupon at Amazon, this humidifier is the lowest price wev’e seen. This portable HoMedics humidifier earns a very good rating in overall performance and is intended to humidify areas up to 25 square feet. It earns top marks in our noise and efficiency tests but performs poorly when filled with hard water. Despite a few drawbacks—a 60-inch power cord and only two settings—it’s still a solid choice, especially in the under-$50 price range.

    Baby Safety Gates

Regalo’s Easy Step gate can help you set your mind at ease. It’s not only secure but also especially easy to install. Our testers found it easy to use, though you do need two hands to open the gate, which may limit its convenience when you’re carrying a child or anything else. It measures 30¼ inches in height and can span openings from 29 to 38½ inches wide, and you can use it on uneven surfaces.
